Many fruits and vegetables are grown with pesticides and coated with food-grade waxes. Pesticides are mainly used during the cultivation of crops and in some cases may remain as residues. Some fruits are also coated with food grade waxes to maintain shelf life and improve appearance such as color and firmness. According to the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), high levels of pesticide residues exposure has been linked to all kinds of diseases. Unfortunately, a quick rinse in water won’t get rid of the waxy coating or the pesticides. But it’s fairly easy to remove it by using simple ingredients found in kitchen. All you need to do is prepare a mixture of water, vinegar, baking soda and lemon juice and then use it as a spray, rinse or soak.

2. Fill a bowl with 10 percent white vinegar and 90 percent water. Soak the veggies and fruits in the bowl. Stir them around, let it soak for 15 to 20 minutes and then thoroughly rinse with water.
