Clerk tells a Mom that being a Mother is not a “job” and gets a proper comeback

A woman renewing her driver’s license at the DMV was asked by the clerk to state her occupation.

She hesitated, uncertain how to classify herself. “What I mean is,” explained the clerk, “do you have a job, or are you just a …?”

“Of course I have a job,” snapped the woman. “I’m a mother.”

“We don’t list ‘Mother’ as an occupation … ‘Housewife’ covers it,” said the clerk emphatically.

I forgot all about her story until one day I found myself in the same situation, years later, at our local police station.

The clerk was obviously a career woman, poised, efficient, and possessing a high-sounding title like, “official interrogator” or “town registrar.”

“What is your occupation?” she probed. What made me say it, I do not know. … The words simply popped out.

“I’m a research associate in the field of child development and human relations.” The clerk paused, pen frozen in midair, and looked up as though she had not heard right. I repeated the title slowly, emphasizing the most significant words. Then I stared with wonder as my pronouncement was written in bold, black ink on the official questionnaire!

“Might I ask,” said the clerk with new interest, “just what you do in your field?”

Coolly, without any trace of fluster in my voice, I heard myself reply, “I have a continuing program of research, in the laboratory and in the field. I’m working for my master’s, and already have four credits. Of course, the job is one of the most demanding in the humanities, and I often work 14 hours a day. But the job is more challenging than most run-of-the-mill careers and the rewards are much more satisfactory than just money.” There was an increasing note of respect in the woman’s voice as she completed the form, stood up, and personally ushered me to the door.

When I got home, buoyed up by my glamorous new career, I was greeted by my lab assistants: ages 10, 7, and 3. Upstairs, I could hear our new experimental model, 6 months old, in the child-development program, testing out a new vocal pattern.

I felt I had triumphed over bureaucracy! And I had gone on the official record as someone more distinguished and indispensable to mankind than “just another mother.”

Motherhood … What a glorious career! Especially when there’s a title on the door.

Every Mother has her work cut out for her. Sometimes she’s a teacher, sometimes she’s a nurse, and sometimes she’s a prison warden.

As a mama I’m not perfect

As a mama,
 I’m not perfect. I make
mistakes. I forget things.
I lose my cool. And some days
I go a little crazy. But, it’s okay
because in the end, no one
could ever love my children
the way I do.

A mother is always a mother she never stops worrying about her children even when they are all growing and have children of their own.

I will always need my children. They made me laugh, cry, made me proud, drove me crazy. They are my forever friends.

No matter how old they get or what they have accomplished you still worry about their well being and how they are. It’s a never ending thing for a Mom because the love a Mother has for her child is unending no matter what. Mom’s are always on call 24/7 because they love their children so much it doesn’t matter the time of day or the age of their kids. This is the truest form of love.

Mother's love for her children

My mother was far from perfect, she didn't go to the best schools, dress in fine clothes or have a lot of money. But when I look back, she had riches that money can't buy.. a big heart that only know one thing, the love for her children.

My mother was far from perfect: I miss mom so much. She is in thoughts lots, but I miss her presence, and voice. I remember everything about her and will always love and cherish her.💕She was loving, funny and happy. I had the best mom on this world. I love you and miss you all the time. Thanks for watching over me and my family.

“I'm A Mother! Never underestimate me! I know more than I say, and notice more than you realize… I have superpowers and eyes in the back of my head!”

Just because you give birth to a child doesn't make you a mother! Being a mother means taking care of your kids, cuddling, watching them grow, watching them play and argue, being there for the good and the bad, and most importantly showing them your unconditional love every second of EVERYDAY!

Your Mother is always with you.

Your Mother is always with you. She’s the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street, she’s the smell of certain foods you remember, flowers you pick, the fragrance of life itself. She’s the cool hand on your brow when you’re not feeling well, she’s your breath in the air on a cold winter’s day. She is the sound of the rain that lulls you to sleep, the colors of a rainbow, she is Christmas morning. Your mother lives inside your laughter. She’s the place you came from, your first home, and she’s the map you follow with every step you take. She’s your first love, your first friend, even your first enemy, but nothing on earth can separate you . Not time, not space…….. not even death.

Mom Knows Everything

A Mom visits her son for dinner who lives with a girl roommate.

During the course of the meal, his mother couldn’t help but notice how pretty his roommate was. She had long been suspicious of a relationship between the two, and this had only made her more curious…

Over the course of the evening, while watching the two interact, she started to wonder if there was more between him and his roommate than met the eye.

Reading his mom’s thoughts, his son volunteered,
“I know what you must be thinking, but I assure you, we are just roommates.”

About a week later, his roommate came to him saying,
“Ever since your mother came to dinner, I’ve been unable to find the silver plate. You don’t suppose she took it, do you?”

He said, “Well, I doubt it, but I’ll email her, just to be sure.”

He sat down and wrote:

8 Lies My Mother Told Me – A Touching Story

This story begins when I was a child: I was born poor. Often we hadn’t enough to eat. Whenever we had some food, Mother often gave me her portion of rice. While she was transferring her rice into my bowl, she would say “Eat this rice, son! I’m not hungry.”

This was Mother’s First Lie.
As I grew, Mother gave up her spare time to fish in a river near our house; she hoped that from the fish she caught, she could give me a little bit more nutritious food for my growth. Once she had caught just two fish, she would make fish soup. While I was eating the soup, mother would sit beside me and eat the what was still left on the bone of the fish I had eaten, My heart was touched when I saw it. Once I gave the other fish to her on my chopstick but she immediately refused it and said, “Eat this fish, son! I don’t really like fish.”

This was Mother’s Second Lie.
Then, in order to fund my education, Mother went to a Match Factory to bring home some used matchboxes, which she filled with fresh matchsticks. This helped her get some money to cover our needs. One wintry night I awoke to find Mother filling the matchboxes by candlelight. So I said, “Mother, go to sleep; it’s late: you can continue working tomorrow morning.” Mother smiled and said “Go to sleep, son! I’m not tired.”

This was Mother’s Third Lie.
When I had to sit my Final Examination, Mother accompanied me. After dawn, Mother waited for me for hours in the heat of the sun. When the bell rang, I ran to meet her.. Mother embraced me and poured me a glass of tea that she had prepared in a thermos. The tea was not as strong as my Mother’s love, Seeing Mother covered with perspiration, I at once gave her my glass and asked her to drink too. Mother said “Drink, son! I’m not thirsty!”.

This was Mother’s Fourth Lie.
After Father’s death, Mother had to play the role of a single parent. She held on to her former job; she had to fund our needs alone. Our family’s life was more complicated. We suffered from starvation. Seeing our family’s condition worsening, my kind Uncle who lived near my house came to help us solve our problems big and small. Our other neighbors saw that we were poverty stricken so they often advised my mother to marry again. But Mother refused to remarry saying “I don’t need love.”

She doesn't see your expressions, she doesn't see your gloomy face, but from just your voice on a phone call she can make out that you are sad.

Qualities of Good Woman

Pay Attention To Her!
When a woman is “tripping” she cares. When a woman is “mad” she believed in you and you let her down. When she’s “asking questions” she is trying to gain clarity. When she’s quiet and letting things “slide” she is giving up. And when she’s not doing any of the above just know you lost a good woman.
