Don’t Wash Your Jeans, Put Them In The Freezer! THE REASON? BRILLIANT!
We all have freezers, but are we using them most effectively? There’s more you can do with your freezer than making ice and storing your food items. Read on for some surprising ways you can get the most out of your freezer.
1. KILL BACTERIA AND REMOVE ODORS FROM JEANS BY PUTTING THEM IN A FREEZER
Washing your jeans too much fades the color. If your jeans start to smell a bit rank, throw them in the freezer at night to remove bad odors. The freezer will kill most of the odor-causing bacteria, and you don’t have to worry about the dye in your denim fading from over-washing.
2. FRESHEN SHOES
Put the shoes in a plastic zip-lock bag, don’t forget to sealit tightly. Put the bag in freezer overnight to kill the smell. Thaw the shoes next day in the sun. Extreme cold, just like extreme heat, can take out bacteria.
3. STRETCH OUT TOO-TIGHT SHOES
Shoes too small? Stretch them out using ice bags. Fill up two plastic ziplock bags with water. Check for leaks and remove all air from the bag. Place the bags in each shoe. Keep the shoes in the freezer until the water is completely frozen. This may take anywhere between 4 to 8 hours. The water in shoes will freeze, expand, and stretch out your shoes.
4. MAKE THE ULTIMATE ICED COFFEE
Brew regular coffee and let it cool to room temperature. Pour evenly into an ice cube tray, then place into freezer. Add these coffee cubes to your regular cold brew or cold coffees and enjoy it full strength.
5. RICE SOCK
Fill a sock with rice and freeze for two hours. Then, place it between bedsheets to stay cool while you sleep. It can also be applied to the body to help relieve pain and discomfort.
6. INSTANTLY CHILL ANY DRINK
Wrap a wet paper towel around your beverage and put it in the freezer. In about 15 minutes it will be almost completely ice cold.
7. EXTEND SHELF LIFE OF BATTERIES
Storing unused NiMH and NiCd batteries in the freezer will drastically lengthens their lifespan; regular ‘ol alkaline batteries will also last longer in the freezer, but not by nearly as much. Be sure to bring them up to room temperature before using the batteries.
8. KILL DUST MITES ON STUFFED ANIMALS AND PILLOWS
Freeze difficult-to-wash stuffed animals and pillows to kill dust mites or pests. Place the item in a plastic bag, squeeze out all the air, and chill in the freezer for at least 48 hours.
9. UNSTICK PLASTIC WRAP IN THE FREEZER
Keeping plastic wrap in the freezer makes it easier to pull off, and less likely to stick to itself when you rip it off the roll.
10. PROLONG THE LIFE OF CANDLES
Freezing candles before use can actually extend their life quite a bit — up to double the burning time!
11. STOP YOUR SWEATERS FROM SHEDDING
Stop your sweaters from shedding by sticking them in the freezer overnight. If you have a cashmere or wool sweater that won’t stop shedding, toss it in the freezer before each wear.
12. REMOVE PUFFINESS AND BAGS UNDER EYES WITH A FROZEN SPOONS
A frozen spoon can also be used to reduce puffiness around the eyes. Take two spoons freeze them overnight and next morning apply the frozen spoons over the puffy eyes for 30-40 seconds. Source
