In this modern society, eating food with hands can sometimes be perceived as being unhygienic, but you won’t believe that it is even more hygienic and healthier than eating with a spoon or a fork.
Here are the 3 Reasons why eating with hands is way more healthier.
1. VEDIC INTERPRETATION
According to Ayurveda, human body is composed of five elements – air, water, fire, earth and space. An imbalance in any one of these elements can disrupt the immunity system and cause various diseases. Each of our finger is related to one of the five elements. So when we eat food with our hands, we join our thumb and fingers which maintains the balance between these elements and therefore strengthen the immunity system.
2. IMPROVES DIGESTION
According to Ayurveda, the body makes a response to food-touching by producing the required digestive juices and enzymes. All this starts even before the food reaches the lips. The finger tips have millions of nerve endings which get a reading of the texture and temperature of the food. This reading is sent as a signal to the stomach and readies it to generate the necessary digestive juices, which helps in better digestion.
Our body is thought to have a certain kind of good bacteria known as normal flora. These bacteria are not harmful to human instead they protect us from many harmful bacteria from outside environment. Some of these normal flora also reside in places like our hands, mouth, throat, intestine, gut and the rest of our digestive system. So when we eat with hands, we also consume these beneficial bacteria along with food. This will help maintain the natural balance of good and bad bacteria in body. Eating with spoon for long time can imbalance the pattern of normal flora which leads to reduced immunity to environmental bacteria.
